Qualified Behavior Analyst (QBA) course

The Qualified Behavior Analyst (QBA) course is for master's graduates who want to work as behaviour analysts: assessing behaviour, designing treatment programmes and supervising teams in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

What is the QBA credential?

The QBA is the behaviour analyst credential of the Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Credentialing Board (QABA). A QBA carries out behaviour assessments, writes and oversees treatment plans, and supervises QASP-S practitioners and technicians (ABATs).

Core course content (270 training hours)

The course covers the coursework QABA requires for this credential. The main topics are:

  • Advanced concepts and principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
  • Measurement, experimental design and evaluating interventions.
  • Functional behaviour assessment and the functions of behaviour.
  • Treatment planning and behaviour-change procedures.
  • Autism core knowledge (at least 20 hours).
  • Supervision, team management and staff training (at least 20 hours).
  • Ethical and legal considerations (at least 20 hours).

Requirements for the QBA credential

Under QABA standards, the main requirements are:

  1. Hold at least a master's degree from an accredited university in a related field, such as ABA, psychology or special education.
  2. Complete 270 hours of approved coursework.
  3. Complete 2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork, including at least 1,200 indirect hours, such as supervision, behaviour assessment and reviewing data.
  4. Provide a professional recommendation from your supervisor, and a criminal background check (or an employer attestation).
  5. Pass the QABA examination and agree to the QABA Code of Ethics.
